Totem Natural Gas Storage Project
Colorado Interstate Gas Company (CIG), a subsidiary of El Paso Corporation, plans to convert a depleted natural gas production field in eastern Adams County, Colorado, into underground natural gas storage service to provide additional reliable and efficient natural gas storage and delivery to the expanding Denver and Front Range market. The proposed project will provide CIG with enhanced flexibility to meet regional seasonal and daily fluctuations in natural gas demands in a cost-effective manner.
The depleted natural gas production field in eastern Adams County, Colorado, is approximately 34 miles northeast of the city of Denver and 11 miles north of Bennett, Colorado. The storage field will encompass approximately 8,360 acres.

Based on design data, the storage field will have a total gas inventory of about 10.7 billion cubic feet (Bcf), comprised of 7.0 Bcf of working gas and 3.7 Bcf of base gas.
As currently planned, the Totem Natural Gas Storage Project will require the installation of eight injection/withdrawal wells, 11 observation wells, and one salt water disposal well. The injection/withdrawal wells will be interconnected with approximately 3 miles of smaller diameter pipe. A compressor station with 9,400 horsepower will be required to inject and withdraw the natural gas.
