High Plains Expansion

Colorado Interstate Gas Company (CIG), a majority-owned subsidiary of El Paso Corporation, constructed the High Plains Expansion Project to serve the increasing natural gas demands of the Colorado Front Range market, including residential and commercial heating loads, industrial natural gas requirements, and gas-fired electric generation facilities. The project was developed by WYCO, a 50/50 joint venture with Xcel Energy. The High Plains Expansion Project involves the installation of approximately 164 miles of 24-inch and 30-inch pipeline and 10 measurement facilities in Adams, Morgan, and Weld counties, Colorado. The High Plains Expansion Project incorporates interconnections with the interstate pipeline systems of Wyoming Interstate Company, Ltd., Rockies Express Pipeline, LLC, Young Gas Storage Company Ltd., and multiple deliveries into Public Service Company of Colorado’s intrastate pipeline system.

The Project’s 899 million cubic feet per day of additional natural gas capacity is enough natural gas to serve approximately 2.9 million homes each day, based on average monthly residential usage for the Colorado Front Range market area.
